Images are uploaded on Pic8 and mirrored on Poal.

When the upload is successful, the pic8's image short link will automatically get pasted in the text input area

Image size limit is set to 20MB, because if your internet connection isn't fast enough, the upload will take forever and may time out.

Useful on mobile when you want to share an image in comments without having to first upload it on pic8 or other image hosts.

The second big advantage is that it protects your privacy.

EXIF data and GPS coordinates (if enabled on your device) will automatically be stripped off.

Cool feature; also, nice hoop earrings you've got there.

Fantastic. Thanks for continuously making this a better site. Anyone that has GPS coordinates on all their photos is an idiot.

Thinking about this, mirroring is a great idea. The costly part of image hosting isn't the storage, it's the bandwidth. So with the mirror flaky hosts don't ruin things as you can restore the local backup or serve it yourself until the image host is back up. And since you're getting a copy of the photo you can strip the metadata on your end before uploading to hosts to be sure they don't get it.

That's already planned/designed that way.

Poal is gonna use the same hashing/signature method, which means uploaded images on both Pic8 and Poal will end up with the exact same name and thus no extra db queries when falling back to Poal when Pic8 is acting gay.

Only the path has to be changed (client side with some js kungfu). A much straightforward fallback with little to no resources.

So the client-side HTML/JavaScript would detect when the image host is taking too long and fallback to Poal automatically? Cool.
