I assumed this was to conserve horizontal space for people with potato screens.

I use a style sheet from one of the subs as a default. Most importantly, it helps me with colors because I’m colorblind.
Your device might have a colorblind mode in the accessibility section of your settings.
I’ve tried some of those things but they make everything look weird. I don’t see black & white, I just have a limited amount of colors I can see and shades start blending together where other people can see the difference.
I’ve always said that it’s like I can only pick out the colors from an 8 pack of crayons. Normal sighted people can tell you, without context, what each color is from the 128 pack of crayons.
And that 8 pack still screws me up with brown/green and purple/blue.
