That feature was added for the following purpose: * Prevents users from accidentally reposting something that is already or was on the front page a few days ago (posted in subs they have blocked or aren't subscribed to). * To only submit that link again if the previous ones didn't get enough attention (depending on posting time) The only group that is extensively crossposting are Q users.
