I don't know the lingo, hopefully you get it. I tried to edit a recent showerthoughts post. I put this as an edit, then figured it belonged here instead:

@AOU remember when I said about CRs? Yeah, they don't work when editing the content of a post. Maybe that is "as intended."

Okay, they work when posted. Not during edit.

Using Waterfox at the moment.

Yeah, editing this does not format correctly. Have fun!

GreyishDragon and @Khro_

Please clear your cache and try again. Should be fixed now. (stupid Waterfox doesn't correctly handle normal white-spaces in <textarea>)

That was very fast and what you did fixed it perfectly for me and displays properly when editing a main post!
Thank you very much for making that change to account for Waterfox.

Thanks for the report.

Cheers!

I think I spoke too soon, sorry. It initially looked great when I went to make an edit, but after making an edit and then previewing it the formatting seemed to disable wordwrap:

After preview of edit: https://files.catbox.moe/deqpvn.jpg

Try again.

It seems to be inverted to normally being no word wrap and going in to edit enables it so it looks normal.

Oh. Thanks! How odd.

Also using Waterfox Classic and experiencing this issue.
I tested editing a main post in Brave and the issue is not present there.
I haven't been able to pinpoint the cause of the issue in Waterfox yet.

For me, trying to edit a main post or even view the source for it in Waterfox goes from this:

https://files.catbox.moe/ftay9o.jpg

To this:

https://files.catbox.moe/eamg2g.jpg

Instead of this:

https://files.catbox.moe/bws9m3.jpg

And carriage returns and formatting do not function properly or at all within the post, but all changes are apparent during preview and stick after submission.

Going to run more extensive testing tomorrow to see if I can determine the cause.

Are you using a custom global CSS?

/s/books doesn't look like the one in your screenshot at all.

Here they are again with the CSS properly turned off:

To this: https://files.catbox.moe/5ncdmz.jpg

Instead of this: https://files.catbox.moe/8si21x.jpg
(put my saved body text for that post into a comment to show how it normally looks when editing)

Sorry, I accidentally forgot to disable it for the screenshots. I can take the shots again with it disabled if you would like, but the issue is present with all CSS changes disabled.

Side note, I am using Waterfox Third Generation. I gave up on Classic.

Editing works fine, you need to use the proper syntax: double space at the end of a sentence if you intend to use one CR per line, otherwise you have to use 2 CRs per line.

example below:

  • Double space

You need to use a double space at the end of a sentence
if you intend to use one CR per line,
otherwise you have to use 2 CRs per line.

I just made a comment on this CR issue that might show the issue a little better.

It appears to be something specific to Waterfox as it isn't present in Brave for me. It is an issue only when editing the main post and not an issue when editing comments. It only became an issue for me within the past couple weeks and I'm still working to try to find the cause for it off and on.

Waterfox is whacky, so @AOU, he found it as well, but again, Waterfox is strange. Might want to ignore if only on Waterfox.

No, what I mean is during editing.

Do the following: make a text post on whatever subverse, write a short description. Post. Then edit the post. Try to modify the description (not title). Then click "enter" a number of times. It does not go to a newline, but does add a space character.

I mean, if that is normal, fine. But it is inconsistent with initially making a post.

I know exactly what you are talking about and that's exactly what I did on different browsers and haven't encountered that issue.

That is obviously not normal. This issue seems to be a bug with WF. So if you want to help, please provide the content (or screenshot) of the browser's console.

Here. Note that when copy the inner HTML and sticking it into a Windows text editor, the paragraphs are fine. I simply think this is a CRLF not being converted to HTML BR issue somehow, but I could be completely wrong.
