In deeply nested conversations the text of the post shifts position significantly when you mouse over causing distracting re-formating of text and even the general page rendering... things shift a little bit for each layer of nesting meaning the reformating can be quite significant on deep threads.

That's what the parent/link buttons are for. When a thread gets too deep, it's advised to use them.
