If I click to read comments and click the back button, the Poal feed sends me back near the top of the results; not directly at the top, just near it. If I scroll way down the page and click to read a comment, the next time I click to go back I'm taken back to the (near) top. It never takes me back to the part of the feed I was initially at.

I like to believe I'm more lazy than an imbecile. I guess I'm just used to how Voat worked (correctly).

Voat worked correctly

Joke? Voat was the biggest piece of shit software on the internet and had zero feedback to dev options.

And yet that simple scroll/feed issue wasn't a problem...

I will take your word for it, I open links in a new tab like any civilized internetter does.

I am curious as to why you would open links in the same tab and then go back instead of opening the link in a new tab and then being able to click back and forth instantly at will with no reloading- is there some specific reason?
