Hello. Voat-fugee here looking for a new home.

I think I could get used to this site, but there is one problem that the Javascript is not compatible with older browsers.

For various reasons not everyone is able to upgrade to the latest and greatest. I'm stuck with an older system :(

On Voat there are no problems as it is running compatible JS, but here the code is using async/await, which requires a more modern browser engine. As a result the site crashes with the following error:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token function

Without having to redo the code a simple solution would be to just transpile the offending file (main.js) with Babel:

Babel will then generate compatible code which works out of the box on older browser too.

I transpiled the code myself. Works without any problems. I document the solution here for myself and anyone else that needs it.

Interestingly, the site works perfectly fine without javascript at all, which is a rare sight these days. Sure, you get an annoying message, but you can easily hide it with most blockers.

maybe if u didnt steal a linux machine like a nigga, you'd know the system password to upgrade

That, and get access to the 150 BTC stash stored on it. There's a sticker that says PuttitOut on the back of this machine. Not sure what that is about.
