For a lot of us anyway, the nick is mostly a technical formality we have to get along with. In the end it's not about "who said what", but what is said

A plus side is that you can't be stalked, outside observers can hardly pin down a particular user talking about a particular issue.... Some issues are more "dangerous" than others, tend to attract more flack. You can see a reason why somebody doesn't want to have a pile of that attached to his tail...

Another plus side is that you're some sort of "born again" on each post, remind yourself you're not this or that nick, you're not your poal account.... It's not a bad thing
