It seems to be plausible to communicate in more detail what a link or image is about, or publish additional references. At the moment this has to be done in the comments. This sucks, because OPs tend to know more about their topic than average commenters, and also may want to steer the discussion in a specific direction, provide additional references, and so on. This should be done in a dedicated text-field, and not in the comments. So Link-posts should simply be a subclass of text-posts and have just additional fields.

This feature is in our todo list already and will come in a future update.

That would be a feature no other news aggregator platform I know has so far.

You can write quite a lot in the title field, and I wish people would, so we'll know whether we want to click on it.

Titles are like headlines or short-descriptions, and too short for anything remotely nuanced.

I disagree

Then your language-skills either equal those of william shakespeare, or you're not used to having anything nuanced to say.

Edit:

That sounds more insulting than it was meant. What I mean is: Usually I try to communicate some idea, when posting a link, and sometimes this idea isn't too obvious, and sometimes even complicated. In those cases the 150 or so chars are too short to communicate what the post is about. They also lack formatting, which makes things worse. That can't be solved by making them longer, because items in listings have to be short for the listing to be useful.

The closest thing to it that is currently available is commenting immediately after posting.
