Animal control is here, and now we can't find the thing. It's at least 2 ft. long, maybe about 3.

That's appears to be a black snake, common in the Carolinas. These fuckers will join you in your home happily.

Yeah, he identified it as a black rat snake, pretty much harmless. I swear it looked an awful lot like a cottonmouth though, and I decided to not take any chances.

They can get large and they will bite. We used to see them lying on walking paths through Carolina woods and we'd just step over them, far more worried about black bears.

Had a big ass black snake in our cabin for many years. We'd find molted snakeskin in the basement, and many times saw him slithering his way up the field stone exterior to go hunting in the attic. We called it/him Bob. Bob kept the cabin mouse free for many years - he was well over 5 feet in length and must have had a good appetite. The we didn't see him for a while and mice were everywhere all of a sudden. Black snakes are perhaps the best snakes to have hanging out around your house, but their size can be intimidating!

Aww, the danger noodle.

There's a garter snake living along the West wall of my house, found his intact skin the other day. Kids thought that was cool.

We found a rattlesnake skin in Christmas decorations one year. That was an interesting time decorating the tree. Putting your hand in the bin was like reaching into that tree stump thing in Flash Gordon hoping the Wood Beast wasn't there. I have a tradesman weather/dust resistant toolbox for Christmas decorations now.

Snakes and I have a psychological understanding...if they don't bite me, I won't turn them into a wallet, cell phone case...options are likely limitless.

They say there's timber rattlers around these parts, though I've never heard one or seen one, aside from taxidermied specimens at the welcome centers of various nature preserves. Only other venomous guy here is the copperhead. Garters, milk, ring neck, ribbon and northern waters are the most common encounters. Therefore I have no problem with snakes.

I'm in California. We have rattlesnakes that eat rattlesnakes. 😂

I think I've seen two Kingsnakes while on the bike trails. No idea which one left its skin in the decorations, just that it was a rattler.

Timber rattlers protected in Texas.
