Congrats! Did the landlord change the locks? If not, it's reasonably priced to buy a new deadlock and hand the landlord an extra key. I change the locks every time I move. I got Kwikset locks this past time around and I can rekey them any time with a little doo-dad they came with. I'm sure they aren't super secure but all locks are merely a deterrent.
This is a block full of angry Italian union guys, they are riff-raff in one sense, but they keep the riff-raff out in another sense.
I miss living with the Italians. I lived in northern NJ for years. My brother actually married into the mob and got a union job fixing elevators in NYC.
I miss when the mob ran las vegas. It was so much better then.
