I've buried three German Shepherds over the years, one was a K9 unit dog. Just buried them in the ground like you (make sure the hole is deep).

The kids were closer to them.

Now I've got an expensive cat that I'm getting close to cause we're always together.

You got me worried about getting too attached.

I had a cat of such quality. As a ragdoll, she kinda loved everyone, but she would come to me when called. All the great parts of a cat, and she had some of the qualities of a dog too.

Sure, be worry about becoming too attached, but don't devalue the relationship by pulling away, to avoid future pain. Accept the pain as the bill for the love and companionship.

It'll hurt even more, in the long term to be alone, without even the memory of a worthwhile companion

That's a higher class of comment than perhaps we earn. That's nice. Thank you.

Yeah, very well said, couldn't agree more, and thanks very much.

He's a Persian cat. Been over forty years since I had a cat, any cat.

Nice. Mine didn't last to 15. His hips were going out and you could tell it was time. He had an appetite on the last day. So he got some grilled cheese sandwiches. The vet came over and gave him the shot. He went and laid down under his favorite tree with my family around him as he dozed off. Perfect and only way he deserved to go.

Wow! Mine didn't last that long, not really close.
