No idea what breed it was, I just stared in fear. Rule of thumb is brown chicken is most reliable chicken for egg and meat and behavior. All other breeds are novelty and maybe do one thing well.
Bad rule.
We have currently experienced over 50 buff orpingtons (a golden caramel color), about 10 Rhode Island Reds, about a half dozen barred rock, some barred rock sex links, and a bunch of Easter eggers. The have all been enjoyable and easy to manage but the barred rock have been the most friendly.
Also, we have four ostrolorps. They're a little skittish but not bad.
The rooster serving our hens is a buff orpington and he's a gentleman.
I find the buffs friendly but they eat more than the others and the egg is slightly smaller. Kids favorite though. Anericunas, lay good eggs, but end up in trees at times. Brown chickens for us lashed the biggest eggs, most per week averaged over a couple years and no particular bad behavior traits.
