It's wired into human nature to attribute magical properties to objects. That's why certain objects have sentimental value, to the point where even if something you lost was replaced exactly, it's just not the same as 'the one Grandpa gave me', even if it serves the same function, even if it reminds you of Grandpa the same way. This applies to the church, where even if reconstructed 100% faithfully (assuming they don't just build a mosque over it), some magical/sentimental value was permanently lost with the original building. That's why some people are so eager for a muslim to have destroyed the church, while others don't even want the insinuation that muslims have been vandalizing churches *in a similar manner*. An event like this has the potential to change widespread perceptions. I guess that's why I've been celebrating it burning down with fire music and photos and such. The destruction of this church releases its magic energy into the world.
