I'd just like to point out that he was a bull terrier mutt of unknown heritage. The Boston Bull Terrier was a relatively new breed at the time and he was far too large to be a Boston Bull Terrier, even before they acquired their miniature stature.

Look at that picture. He was probably descended from the "Bull and Terrier" or a late "American Bull Terrier" (predecessor to the Boston Bull Terrier), not to be confused with its cousin the American Pit Bull Terrier.
The photos in your link clearly show him to not be a Boston Terrier, hence the size and head. almost a mastiff head or pitty. Also the fact he was found wondering homeless in a university so they really had no proof of his blood line. Thanks for the link.
