The natives dress like they are in Minnesota, buses have the heater jacked up as high as it will go, and all the buildings ( library, dentist, shops, etc) are set on broil.
Grew up on White Castle cheeseburgers. Love at first bite, and the only restaurant I can name from those days....well, except Dairy Queen of course, but there is a DQ here!
I used to go to DQ every spring, but I haven't been in years now.
The only one here is quite a ways off via public transit (bus, BART train, then another bus). About a 2-hour trip one-way, and there is nothing else there, so it's a special trip just for that, but I still go at least four times a year. I'm damned determined not to give that up, like everything else. There is a 'Fosters Freeze' in Berserkeley I go to every month or so, which is like a generic rip-off of DQ, plus I do have a milkshake maker and ice cream maker, so I'm not too bad off.
I'm honestly not sure what happened it was almost a family tradition, I went with my mom every spring but as I got older I have almost completely lost my sweet tooth, I just don't enjoy sweets anymore. Its honestly sad at times, but I don't enjoy it, I'll take a good steak or some buttered asparagus over ice cream any day and I'm not sure what changed.
