If nations could have it as we see in a good portion of Europe, then it is not far fetched to see the same psychology play out in the commercial sector. This crap is something they can afford to do. After having worked in such a place myself, I can tell you first-hand a lot of stupid shit they do and invest in often backfires. To recoup their losses, they severely slash hours and cut the staff and replace some of them with machines as well as up the prices.

Combined that with mandated minimum wage increases, a person can go from working 38 hours a week to 4 hours every two weeks.

Many idiot workers will suffer from their nonsense, but it is a risk they will gladly take time and time again since Stockholm syndrome is clearly present among the staff.
