Those are rusted fuel tanks to the right and left? Maybe a nice simple in-line six diesel to drive some type of squirrel cage blower?
I’d hate to be the engineer responsible for that motor. 200 people 2 miles in and you have to keep them breathing.

No, they were like curved pieces of steel that looked like a roof for something. What ever they had covered was long gone.

So it was just a “vent house” where air exited? No machinery? A pusher fan was at the other end maybe. I know nothing about ventilating mines. Experimented with some groundhog holes once, but that doesn’t count.

I'm sure there was something in the building at one time, but it was either removed by the mine when it was closed or scrappers took it.
