I'm not sure many have been duly elected in a long while, and the few who may have been either were controlled opposition or they were shown why they needed to march to a certain tune.
The level of naivete among Americans(and I'm sure most other nations, I just don't have first hand knowledge like here) is a multi layered creation of appallingly powerful control painstakingly honed through centuries of nonconsensual experimentation.
