"this note is legal tender for all debts, public and private."

I'm pretty sure this is illegal. Someone with law experience want to weigh in?

That just means that if the vendor accepts cash, then that note is considered payment at the face value of the note.

The vendor is under no obligation to accept cash, however.

Missed that, thanks.

It's hard to divorce the thought that payment = cash.

The turnpike already takes pictures of plates to bill you, I'm surprised they don't dump the transponders altogether and just go platepics.

"The new Toll By Plate rates offset the higher costs the commission incurs to process the toll, mail the invoices and collect payment" - this makes my fucking head spin. They're raising the toll to cover the cost of billing you the toll? It would be less insulting if they'd just say "we're raising rates because fuck you".

They already charge you a shitton more for bill-by-plate, so I don't know what they're hollering about.

On the PA66 bypass that runs from I-70 New Stanton to US22, it's about $2.00 more if you bill-by-plate. If that doesn't cover the cost of billing then they're doing something wrong.

What a scam. Wonder when they'll raise the gas tax again too.

Probably. If I'm headed that way, I always make sure to fill up in Ohio or WV before I hit the "Commonwealth" of PA.

Man I hate the laws in this, the most beautiful state. First they shut down all cash lanes - you'd be sent the bill.

Johnny cochran refused to take cases here I learned recently

You get sent a bill at double+ the price of the electronic toll.

Highway robbery

Yes, and even the electronic tolling has been going up at a crazy amount.
