I can contest to this, my parents screamed at each other for years and often times I cried myself to sleep when I was 4 and 5. I didn't realize families were supposed to show affection to each other till I was 19. I was shocked to find out my friend Bill was going home to see his family in long island because he loved them and missed them, I was just confused totally when he said that.
I didn’t realize what a real marriage was supposed to be like until I met my in-laws. About a year after I married their son. It was enough to make me want to move across the country to live near them so that I could learn from them and raise my children the way that they raised theirs. And to learn how to communicate and that divorce is not an option so you just learn to communicate and then you don’t have big blow out fights... you just talk it out calmly without the children present and then move on. No holding grudges, or it doesn’t work.
