By the way, smashing pumpkins were my favorite as a teenager, as far as having a "band" I enjoyed. Never was the kind to worship anyone, but I went to five of their concerts. I never realized where he was going with any of his music because I didn't know anything about occult history or symbolism.
thank you for sharing that! very interesting take indeed. the pumpkins were my fanboy band growing up. i did attend a show this last tour with the imagery explained in that video. my take on that imagery was it being a resentful introspection of his years as an alt rock goth god. even back in the 90’s when the pumpkins were THE band, it was pretty clear he did not like the pumpkins scene - the goth poser fanbase that worshiped him. i never saw that deity statue at the recent show i attended, but after seeing this video, i really think that’s simultaneously mocking the poser pumpkins fanbase of yesteryear, while allowing us to relive, if only for a night, that euphoric albeit naive feeling we had back in the 90’s when life was awesome and billy was our god.
