The song was also covered by in 1968 and by in 1982. Bert Berns wanted Van Morrison, who he was producing at the time, to record the song, but Morrison declined, wanting to do his own material instead.

Interesting arrangements by each, but I think Janis definitely put the most heart into it. Don’t think even Mr Morrison could’ve topped her. Thanks again, I hadn’t heard those renditions before either!

I agree, Janis gave all her songs a depth of emotion that was exceptional. She had a hard life from childhood and faced a lot of strife in her life. She was voted "The ugliest man on campus" when she was in college. She used her voice to address her pain and it was evident to anyone who heard her. She was indeed a Legend.
