I've always liked this song, with the orchestration. A close listen will let you know it was written as a disparagement over the commercialism of Christmas. I was initially put off by the lines that cast Jesus as a fairy tale, but have come to think he may be actually referring to the "commercialism" of religion. Whatever, reflect on the pleasant childhood memories you may have, and make new ones this year. Let Christmas, faith, and family be what you want it to be

Fun fact the short, catchy melody that's repeated (on synthesizer) several times in the song is from Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kijé Suite. ELP regularly drew from classical music, to great effect.

Thanks so much. I am a huge music history freak and well aware of their classical roots, but didn't know about that refrain. My knowledge has been increased.

Wishes for a joyous Christmas.
