This always sounded like an early Beatles song to me with the jangly guitar. Wouldn't surprise me if that was intentional. Edit: Looked it up and turns out it's a Byrds cover and the song is built around a riff that Clark later admitted was based on the Searchers' cover of "Needles and Pins". These guys all inspired each other so much around that time.
