I've always enjoyed the Turtles, mainly Volman and Kaylan. As the article indicates, they were pretty opportunistic but actually had the talent to pull it off. I think they really enjoyed what they were doing and weren't focused on big-time stardom. They pulled their own weight with Zappa, which is a good measure of that talent as Zappa was a musical genius, not just as a guitarist but as a composer/theorist and surrounded himself with quality musicians.
