This another propaganda push. Microsoft, Amazon, Google, et al, want to push us all to virtual PCs and big cloud. They want all of us to rent their VMs their OS, networks, everything. Microsoft is pushing for an OS subscription model. Adobe switched over to this a long time ago.

You can count on more articles saying desktops are dead. Note that some states have already started dictating what kinds of PCs you are not allowed to buy (denofgeek.com).

So people are buying lots of desktop PCs, but there are powerful people who don't want us doing that anymore. Think of it like gun control. Soon, only criminals will only buy powerful desktop PCs.

Are desktop PCs dead?

ITT: We've been predicting the death of the desktop for 3 decades now, but this time it's real.

I'll be building my next one as usual. It will be my 7th custom PC.

not kidding you i havent owned a desktop in about 15 years now. I got used to shit games on shit quality on laptops, finally graduated to an MSI gaming machine i used for about.... 6 years i think, then after smashing it at work for about the dozenth time replacing it with a baby canyon nuc and getting hooked on them. Baby Canyon now connected to a legacy tv upstairs as a pseudo smart tv, Hades Canyon downstairs on loungeroom tv as a gaming platform, and a pair of surfaces i use for work.

I dont know whats with the rating type things on 'can this pc run this game' cos that AMD thing that works out if youve got the right PC for a game doesnt work for shit. Tells me not enough GPU power for a couple of games, both of which run just fine on ultra settings.

Also remember, Most modern mid to high end laptops even without a discreet GPU when combined with Samsung VR and Vorpx/Riftcat gets you a killer VR capable pc - That MSI i could run Fallout 4 in VR mode (not Fallout 4 VR.... Fallout 4 in VR mode via Vorpx) without it skipping a beat. It basically hooks into steamVR, and bypasses your GPU sending the graphics processing straight to the mobile phone, and does it wirelessly (none of this cabled bullshit like you get with oculus)

Have run Assetto Corsa (fffffffffffffffucking amazing in VR) XPlane 10, Fallout 4, DCS world through it, and ill tell you straight up a proper flight sim with a full HOTAS setup or racing sim with a decent steering wheel setup is the most immersive thing ive ever done. Stand up moving around shooters you come out of the immersion every time you have to do something other than take steps to walk on screen or having to fumble around to hit a keyboard for something.
