There's an old saying in business management that says, "be careful what you measure because that's what you're going to get." It means that if your widget factory measures employee productivity by hours worked, for example, you'll get a lot of hours worked. The same principle applies in politics, but in a slightly different way. In government the saying should be, "Be careful what societal issue you allow government to address because soon everything will be defined as touching that issue." Grant government the power to address public health and soon they'll be defining everything on their agenda as a public health issue to get their grubby little hands on the issues they want to address. You see this with liberals trying to make "institutional racism" and "gun violence" into public health issues. But they don't even have the decency to be consistent. Put a liberal on a board of education and suddenly "institutional racism" and "gun violence" are education issues. The liberal simply defines their agenda as being relevant to whichever powers are at their disposal. Whatever office they hold is going to be hijacked for their agenda.
That being said, communists have always hated freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to peaceably assemble and petition government for a redress of grievances, the right to bear arms, the right to a speedy trial and to confront one's accusers in court. So when they have some kind of power they use those powers at their disposal to undermine and diminish those freedoms in every way they can. Their individual efforts may be small, but they're like a swarm of ants consuming the corpse of a dead animal. Each ant contributes only a small amount, but the damage from the swarm is total and complete.
