I let the lawn/etc go for 3 weeks [out of town, etc]. Hey, it has rained all of 1" here all year. Then it rains twice in that time. Massive explosion of growth, lawn was a bitch. A bunch of fucking clover spread like a mat over 100sqft of patio. I'm not opposed to chemically massacring plants that grow where I don't want them to, but I'm cheap so I machete'd and ripped it all out. God damn it was hot! I also don't use any power tools...
I had planned on spending a whole fuck ton of time today getting things back into shape but then I thought, " I enjoy this but not past a certain point ". In my earlier years I'd have whipped my dick out and manned up, git-r-done. Today I stopped and re-set my goal to just getting the backyard in shape, which is about 60% of the work. What good is a weekend if I can't enjoy a showerbeer, pick some spearmint to make a bourbon cocktail with, and get some reading in?
Of all the garden I planted in the spring, only have a melon plant, tomato plant, and mint that have survived to summer. There are a couple of things I can plant in the fall; mild winters and all.
