I agree. My parents were slightly younger than your's ... my Dad being too young for WWII, but a product of the depression, as was my mom. I grew up in the 50s, 60s, and came of age in the 70s. It was a fantastic time to live and as you said, you can neither go back again or convey how great it was to those who haven't lived it.
Sure, much is nostalgia and everything wasn't a bed of roses for everyone. But we never had the huge divisions between Americans then. You and I are lucky I suppose ... we know how thing could be, but are cursed by how we've seen them become.
I think you'd really enjoy that TZ episode, when you have 25 mins. It's probably meaningful to any generation, but especially ours.
