Occasionally on tv you see people who've gotten blackout drunk, pissed themselves, lost the ability to walk, or otherwise managed to consume enough alcohol to lose control of autonomous bodily functions.

I dont have an alcohol problem, so I dont understand this at all. How does anyone consume that much alcohol without being stopped by debilitating nausea long before hand? On the rare occasion I over-indulge, I'll be hugging the wildly spinning floor trying not to redecorate the walls in technicolor looong before pissing myself or blacking out became possible.

The only way I can even imagine blacking out drunk is if I theoretically decided to ?keep pounding liquor while violently vomiting?. That sounds horrifically unpleasant and I dont even know how it'd be physically possible to keep consuming alcohol at that point.

Do alcoholics build up some type of tolerance that removes the crippling nausea barrier? Or am I just weirdly nausea prone to the point where anyone else is shouting "Wooh", I'm thinking about why the world is rotating two different directions at once and wouldn't have another drink if it was free?

I use to do what I call a brown-out, I would remember some stuff from the beginning of the night then remember nothing after the 7th or 8th shot and 8 or 9 beers. I'd only get black-out drunk once or twice a month if I was doing good back in the day. I use to be a really heavy drinker and I would hardly ever puke off booze, it was the food I would eat that would fuck up my stomach. I built up a pretty good tolerance to booze over the years and I was able to put a 5th of sailor Jerry away a night and still be 'fine' and functional. It wasn't until I had health problems that I slowed down the drinking.

we also called certain drinking experiences “brown-outs” but for a different reason.
