I have no defense against the first drink. If I drink, I will drink until the end of the bottle. This is not a matter of willpower, for I have no willpower when it comes to alcohol.

It sounds as if alcohol is a euphoric for you. This is genetic. The only advice I can give you is the same one I give the fatties: Leave it on the shelf in the store.

Note that "Leave it on the shelf in the store" is a positive term. If you say, "Don't buy it" you are resisting an action making it a negative statement. "Leave it on the shelf in the store" tells your brain that you are doing something and is vastly more likely reward you with a dopamine hit if you succeed.

Is that similar to "I chose to eat a healthy salad today" rather than "I resisted the temptation of donuts"? Because the former feels like an accomplishment?

Feed all of your alcohol, that you currently have in the house, to the kitchen sink hole. *Positive terminology. Your sink will thank you and reward you with dopamine later.

I cannot afford to drink an entire bottle every day.

You might not be an alcoholic.

If ever I have to resort to $3.99 plastic bottle jug vodka I will stop drinking completely.

Yeah, you do not got it like I do.

It is sometimes difficult for non-alcoholics to understand, because they assume it is about a love of alcohol.

It isn't.

It is a profound discomfort with your own self, and a crazy desire to not be inside of your own mind.

I've heard it said that the first step is the only one you have to do perfectly. Until you can fully accept that it's poison to you, you'll always find excuses to drink. Especially if you're intelligent.

I'm still drunk from last night, and the hard part is that I am absolutely killing it at me job today.

I've been calling the Germans and English and getting crazy good leads from them. It fucking sucks, alcohol removes all my personality problems.

Until it enhances all my personality problems.

Don't give up. What's a bit of money, compared to becoming the man you're capable of becoming?

"What does it benefit a man to gain the world but lose his soul?"

Ain't that a son of a bitch !

People don't it be like it is, but it do.

For what it's worth, the older you get, the less control alcohol should have over you. You seem to be in the "one is too many and a thousand's not enough" phase. You start to get the reins on drinking when you realize "14 is too many, but 8 is not enough." Then adjust those numbers downward from there over the years. But one of the best deterrents is, before even taking that first drink, recall if you will how sick you're going to feel the next day. Ask yourself if it's really worth it to spend 10 hours slowly recovering from the poison tomorrow just for that warm buzz tonight. The fact that that 10-hours-recovery time turns into 18 hours, then 28 hours+ as you get older also aids that deterrent. Alcohol is great. The ride up is so much fun. But never let a substance be your master. .... I just lit a cigarette. Forget everything I just said.

I wish that God hadn't given you this temptation, but he also gives you the power to resist it. On the bright side, at least he didn't tempt you with wanting to suck dicks.

Jesus is the only cure, brother. He is the only one that can free you from your bondage to this sin

I know how you feel. The only thing to keep me sober is having something productive to do that I enjoy. But, given that all I have to do is work and work and work and also work, it is hard to stay off the sauce.

Did you relapse?

[–] 6 pts

No, I am posting this because my behavior is perfect and beyond reproach.

Me: Swear off alcohol forever.

You: I did.

Me: good on ya, M8.

You: Also, this.

Me: The fuck, Theo... Please stop.

My grandmother was a chemical codependency counselor for almost 30 years until she passed away. Herself, a recovering alcoholic for that whole time.

I understand what you mean. Pray, brother, that Christ might, through His Spirit and by the Will of the Father, moment by moment, grant you perseverance. There is no temptation that is beyond God’s power to help you resist.

No big deal. You are on the road to recovery, you stumbled and you fell. Now get up, stop whining and keep going. No one said it would be easy.

At least now you know that your addiction is still there and you can't control yourself around alcohol, so don't buy it and stay away from bars or any events with the drinks.

If you believe that, it is true.
