Nine months and a day, but whatever.
The steps in AA were transformative for me. They all seemed stupid and pointless from just reading them, but in actually doing them I've not only been relieved of the obsession and cravings, but also gotten a lot more serious in my faith. It's been amazing. I feel like I'm becoming my actual self for the first time in about 25 years.
Airports were always a big problem for me, and I never even realized it until I was headed out on this trip. It dawned on me that I haven't flown sober since I was too young to drink. Seeing it everywhere didn't bother me so much, but it was definitely noticeable. Seems like they take every possible opportunity to shove booze at you in those places.
I got to hang out with my brother's family while sober, after having been a drunken shit show the last couple times. It felt good. Redemptive even.
I also got to baptize my aunt, which was pretty awesome.
