Fwiw nutria are native to South America. The McIlhenny fellow that invented Tabasco Sauce thought their fur might be useful so he brought a bunch to his privately-owned Avery Island in southern Louisiana. In 1940 a hurricane blew them inland. A friend told me she's seen them in Minnesota. My brother says he occasionally sees them in Oregon. I don't know why the dumbass didn't just shoot 'em...they'll die slow without their tails.
