Alec Baldwin has accidentally shot and killed the female cinematography director of his upcoming western movie Rust and wounded the director while firing a prop gun on set.

The 68-year-old was filming a scene for the movie at Bonanza Creek Ranch, near the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, when the gun went off around 1.50pm, fatally wounding 42-year-old photography director Halyna Hutchins and leaving writer-director Joel Souza, 48, badly injured.

Hutchins – believed to be a married mother-of-one – was rushed to the University of New Mexico Hospital in an air ambulance but was later pronounced dead, while Souza was taken by ambulance to the Christus St Vincent Regional Medical Center. He has since been released, though his exact condition is unclear.

Meanwhile Baldwin was taken to a Santa Fe detectives’ office to be questioned about the shooting. He was not arrested and was later released without charge – though investigations are ongoing.

Notice how the media apologizes for it by calling the gun a "prop"

you kill someone and you are somehow the victim, this is what all leftists do its always about them. not the motherless child, not the guy who probably has legit trauma about prop guns now, its all about baldwin. the fact that he was an "amazing" actor about trump probably was just him playing himself and telling everyone orange man bad because i think like this

This would never have happened if Baldwin had been trained in the proper handling of a firearm. Even if the gun had been loaded with live rounds, he would not have shot anyone. Those of us who have been trained in handling a gun know that:

  • A gun is never empty. It should always be treated as if it were loaded.
  • You never point a gun at anyone unless you intend to shoot them.

Even simply trigger discipline probably could have prevented this tragedy. I say "probably" because we don't know the actual details of what happened. What we know is that Baldwin pointed the gun at living human beings and pulled the trigger. Nobody with proper training does this unless in defense of their lives or the lives of others. A trained person would not have his finger on the trigger unless about to deliberately shoot the weapon.
