I guess.. Good luck? Also, No women should be trying to buy their "first house" without being in a relationship with a man. If you don't like that, well. Fuck Y'all.

At the same time. What the fuck was she thinking? Oh, she wasn't. Not only that. A man that is worth anything could have pointed out all of those flaws and probably had a general idea how much it would cost to fix.

It is NOT normal for men or women to just "live alone" or "buy their own house" at a young age. This is weird (((jew))) hollywood bullshit.

Don't set yourself up for failure.

I agree. However, sinking only $50K into a house is nothing. One year, I spent nearly $20K replacing normal shit like well and septic pumps, oil tank, water tanks, and poor plumbing. Then I spent $12K fixing a floor after my furnace blew up and poured water all over it. So STFU!

Yeah. But still. This is her statement. The "ONLY" debt". Thought she was "good to go"? I did not grow up with much. I have always been debt adverse. She maxed out credit cards to work on the house. Either could have done it yourself for 1/10th the cost or been with someone (or had some friends) that could. It is not "normal" for young men or women to live "on their own" anywhere. It was "normal" for a very short time in the US due to a huge amount of circumstances which have been eliminated by "globalism" so.. yeah.

I assume you are out East since that is where most people with "oil tanks" are. Still. You spent money where it was worth it and yeah, sometimes you have to drop a lot more than you would like.

>'Before buying a house, the only debt that I had was student loans and a car payment,' she added. 'I was good to go, had my retirement saved up.'

The $50k is just for the repairs, the dumb writer didn't say how much her mortgage is. If buying a home only cost $50,000 in renovations, I could raise the money to buy 100 homes tomorrow and flip them all, but I'd be beaten to the punch for sure by people who have that cash in hand right now.

Exactly. No person buying a home to live in is going to offer $100k above asking, sight unseen, no conditions, and pay in cash.

I bought a house at 19 with my then boyfriend. We were both working and back then in 2000, it was much less expensive, even though we were buying in CT. My bf was pretty useless but his dad was awesome and combed over the house with me. My mom and I climbed up and inspected the roof - she was a roofer, carpet layer, among other construction-y things. I could have found people to help me, including my mom, of course if I had been on my own, but I wasn't willing to take that debt on my own.

We only lasted two years after buying it and he got it in the divorce, but in those two years we had a lot of expenses and we had savings to take care of them just in case. Two months after we bought it the boiler literally sprung a bunch of leaks when it was less than 10 degrees out. That was fun and 12k. There were a lot of odds n ends. Dishwasher it came with didn't work, not that I cared buy my bf insisted we needed a new one so I picked one up from the Sears scratch and dent place and put that in. The oven didn't work, again, just picked up a middle of the road one and installed it.

I could only imagine what some women would have done. I was raised learning how to do that kind of work, but just some chick off the street would have to be paying people a lot of money for the stuff I was able to do or call my mom and have her walk me through it. I did have to pay a guy to come get rid of the ants, and another to clean out the chimney. I had a septic guy come and poke at the septic just in case and he said even though it was old it was perfectly fine and I likely wouldn't need to talk to him for another 10 years if there were only two of us in the house.

You have to not only have the down payment and the salary to keep up the payments, but money set aside for all the things that just happen. I didn't really want to do it, but felt I had no choice. The debt is staggering to buy a house and you both need to be willing to work on and maintain it. It was hard when all he wanted to do was play video games and demand food at his PC while I was trying to keep the house maintained. Doing it without his help money-wise would have been impossible.

I don't want to be a dick but.. What a tool.

Also bought early, also bought an old house. Majority of the work was done by us, a lot of it by me. Nothing wrong with it. Sure, I like to fuck around and play games but I also like to build stuff.

If you want to buy a "fixer" you need to be willing to do the... fixing.. Or you need to make enough $$$ to pay someone else to do it at a premium.

It didn't need a lot of work. It was all pretty normal stuff. Turns out he wanted me to do everything while he played video games and had a blonde on the side. He "kept me around" because his parents loved me and I'd make a good mom. Even though on our first date I'd told him I was never having kids. He just figured he could "make" me. Sigh. Wasted a lot of time and money on him. I didn't get a lawyer, so got nothing but debt when we divorced. He'd taken out loans and credit cards in my name when I told him I was leaving and racked them up. So fun.

It's really made me debt-shy. I have zero debt and will probably never own a house because I'm too afraid to go into any amount of debt. Plus they are all stupid expensive and probably will be for the foreseeable future.

Ouch, that is rough. Never mind me being sorry but that guy is a dick.

I hope you can get what you want. It is shitty to have someone lie to you about where you want to be in life and just expect you to do what they want "later" because "reasons".

Its more shitty for them to fuck you over with taking out CC's and loans in your name though. That is down right hostile and shitty.

On the other side. You are away from them. That counts for something at least.

Yeah but,..it was "cute"! Smh..

Wow, she's a total moron. Obviously surface level, basic bitch inner mind workings. I hate seeing articles like this because it reinforces a stereotype that women should never make any important decisions because they're judgement is shit. I kind of agree with that, but some of us are outliers.

I bought my first (and currently only) house 10 years ago when I was 25. It was a foreclosure that was vacant for 1.5 years, and is over 200 years old. Admittedly, I was EXTREMELY LUCKY as there were no major repairs needed aside from roof replacement, but I hired 2 inspectors with good reputation in my area. I've never married, so there's no "husband" to make all my decisions for me or consult with, which is fine by me. Instead, I looked over the house multiple times with my realtor, took assessments of all needed repairs both large and small, priced it out and created a spreadsheet so I had an accurate and thorough idea of what I was "up against". This allowed me to justify my low but reasonable offer to purchase. It took 6 months to close, but it was worth it.

I hired a company to replace my roof. I have been systematically renovating my house starting in the attic and working down to the front door. I've been able to do 99% of the renovations myself. It's been a long process, luckily my grandfather is a contractor and I learned a lot from him. Using carefully researched products and sticking to a strict budget has allowed me to renovate on a single income.

Home ownership is one of the most important investments you ever make (assuming you're middle/working class like me) so not doing any objective inspection to a home is profoundly stupid. At this point, she doesn't deserve her dream home.... not because she's a woman, but because she's an idiot.

You are right. The argument is always "not all xxxx" my general comment is more on that we live in a time where it somehow becomes mostly normal (in the US) for people to live alone.

That has basically never been normal in human history and still never has been in most of the world.

I'm not just talking about Women moving out on their own but Men as well.

I'm glad you have done well and home ownership is extremely important as an investment. You are still a huge outlier in this situation though.

50K on secondary cosmetic fixes she can’t afford. the house needs a man to keep the woman in line.

She was failed by her home inspector.

which ranged from 'rotten' walls to 'termite damage.'

'First, the seller didn't disclose, like, anything,' she dished. 'Second, my inspector completely failed me.

'80 per cent of the house ended up having dry rot and water damage that he didn't mention.

'There was an entire bedroom where every single joist underneath was either termite damaged or completely rotten.

'There was a tree growing in my foundation through my attic and a hole in my attic because there's just no sheathing.

'All the of the electrical in the house is faulty and done poorly. The entire house is a fire hazard basically.

'My roof has a dead valley in it, so all of the water just sits there and has nowhere to go except into the house.

You'd think there would be legal repercussions for such negligence. However she is negligent herself. She should be looking at the house critically. I'd say the moral of the story is boss bitches should probably not buy homes without a man they trust, ideally a husband or father viewing it. I don't see how the average man who is at least somewhat handy around the house would miss some of these red flags. Rotten supports and a hole in the roof? You missed that? Really?

Some states don't require inspectors to be trained or licensed. It makes things harder but cheaper. You really need to do your own homework though.

I didn't know that. I looked it up, it is required in NC.

You really need to do your own homework though.

For sure. Most of these problems should have been easily observed. It probably wouldn't have taken more than a glance at the electrical box in the house to know there were going to be issues there.
