I had a silver quarter given to me in change about a year ago. I assume the kids not knowing what older coins were passed that on to me.

How worn was the coin? Most of the silver I found years ago was well worn, poor to fair condition. I had a stack of buffalo nickles sorted from the rest that you couldn't even read the dates. It would be a wonderful day to find silver that was in very good to fine condition in circulation.

It was fully in the "junk silver" category.

I have a lot of coins in that category. I never bought a bag of old silver coins but it would be tempting just to see if I could plug a few more holes in my coin collector books ... that I have done little with over the last ~50 years.
