He was on a boat in the same area of the world. He may not have done it, but I bet he doesn't want to admit it if he did. Is probably the reason they actually picked him up.

Well he did smuggle a camera phone into the jail, he could have uploaded some prerecorded drone videos.... what better plausable deniability to upload some while in jail so he could say, 'look it wasn't me I swear'
and then I got caught on purpose to retain plausible deniability

Well he has pulled the whole "I'm not the John Mcafee you are looking for, you want the other John Mcafee who looks just like me" routine successfully before, so I wouldn't put it past the madman.
