Hmm, looks more likely that the plane was steered into the UH-60 on purpose. I'm not saying the pilots did that, but the plane certainly did that. It must have been horrifying to look up and see a bright light approaching very rapidly. RIP all souls aboard.
From what I'm reading, the H-60s would regularly fly in the path of RWY33.
ATC was supposed to tell traffic that other traffic was present, where it was, and to divert if necessary. The jet was circling to land. The heli, not knowing what traffic was where, was looking at a different aircraft.
It sounds like ATC is directly to blame here.
I'm guessing DEI in the ATC tower makes DOA. The New Math formula is ATC+DEI=DOA.
It looks like the plane was banking to land and the helicopter didn’t see it. The plane is going to have a harder time spotting the low flying helicopter.
