Funny, I lived in an old building which had originally been built as a 5 story building, but then later on, they added another floor because the company that owned and operated out of the building was just that prosperous. Well, a hundred or so years after they were gone, I was living in the original top floor, and some rich goober had the toppest top floor as a penthouse. Nice place, that. Aside from being on literal skid row.

It was awesome; a truly gorgeous place, I mean aside from the putrosity outside. And also the landlord, who was just the kind of yuppie leftist shit one might expect to meet in a downtown urban area. Owning our own place is nicer in most ways; but I wish we'd bought that building when it came up for sale because it was shockingly cheap for such a fabulous old building, despite it's horrific location. We don't have brass doors, windows, or elevator cars in our house, though...
