The three responses -- "make coffee at home," "eat the food that's already in the fridge" and "you don't need a cab, it's only three blocks" -- drew a wave of backlash.
Advice very much like what my parents gave me when I got my first apartment. Eat at home, and eat leftovers. Do your own laundry. You don't need a new car every three years. Etc.
How is this controversial?
Because it shows their financial stupidity along with envy and jealousy. They have the mental maturity of a toddler or small child.
I don't get it either.
