I would get rid of most of the special protections that elevate police above the normal citizenry if I was in charge, there would be a lot less "mistakes" and more thought about how to handle a situation properly. I myself have been in a bunch of scenarios where reflecting after the fact came to the conclusion that if I were a police officer I would have just shot the other party and got away with it v.s. conflict avoidance.
