That seems to kind of depend on how much it makes the news. My experience of watching them has been that lots of self defense shootings are fairly low profile. It maybe makes the local news as a "look crime is up again" blurb, and they never even charge anyone. 9 times out of 10 the criminal is black, and the victim is white often enough. What does happen is through whatever (((Machinations))) a situation makes the national news, and then they find someone to prosecute. This is what happened, for instead, with the Ahmaud Arbery case. It was clear cut self defense to the local authorities, so they weren't going to prosecute, yet, "somehow" it made national news/reddit/etc, and they got state law enforcement to trump up a case. Police shootings are kind of the same except that they are even more often swept under the rug, whether that is the right thing to do or not. It really takes a lot of noise making for them to throw a cop under the bus. But in any case, it's the optics not the actual facts of the case that decide when they prosecute those, too.
