Bolt action is perfect, shotguns are good too, crossbows, there are high powered air guns that can rival a .38 or a .45.
The type of gun isn't that important, the most important thing is the finger, the finger must be able to pull the trigger. That part is really in short supply.
A good trigger puller could easily find himself with a better weapon in a matter of minutes.
