I think mass death is on it's way regardless. It essentially has to happen. We are reaching a point where the vast majority of unskilled labor can be replaced with automation. Even to some degree skilled labor as well. There is little need for the poor masses, the very rich will have no use for them in the not too far off future. Whether it comes in the form of war or another method, it will happen.
