So long as we're being honest that's fine. But that's a long leap from painting the chinese as kind hearted philanthropists who are trying to preserve Uighur culture and defend them against the jihadis.

As religions spread, they blend with local customs. Western China has long had muslims, but they followed a slightly heretical version that was compatible with Chinese rule. Now that the world is more connected (internet, etc...) the core of a religion can influence the periphery to be more orthodox. The Saudis fund Wahhabi mosques throughout the world, bringing the various forms of islam back towards orthodoxy.

This disrupts the status quo, creating an escalation that has to result in either the victory or destruction of islam in a region.

"Western china" huh. Trouble with that is that "western china" only started being ruled by the chinese in the 18th century. Why do they need to adapt their culture to chinese rule exactly? That's like a victorian saying "greeks needs to learn to put their religion aside and be better subjects of the ottomans."

Yes. And that kind of revolutionary culture takes root the easiest in area where the locals are being colonised and want independence again.

This disrupts the status quo, creating an escalation that has to result in either the victory or destruction of islam in a region.

Given that the "status quo" is population replacement I'm not inclined to be terribly sympathetic to any commies who happen to eat an IED.
