Kids wouldn't act up like they do if there is always a paddle with their name on it nearby. I don't see what the fuss is about.

Get over yourself. Your kid ain't no damned angel. If that's your attitude, your kid knows this, and will act accordingly when you're not around.
My parents told my teachers to whup my ass if I act up. They didn't, because it was the 90's not the 50's.. I was bad. Awful. Deserved it, believe me.
Was hesitant to act up if I knew my father would find out. He'd leave welts up and down my backside. Probably would have been much more hesitant if I knew any nearby adult could whup my ass for being bad.
