I'm pretty sure there is a statute of limitation which basically limits how far they can go back since your most recent payment. So paying recently will help to limit how far they can go back. Before that they could have gone back over the whole 20 years.

My limited knowledge is that they can go back three years, and if they find one thing wrong, they are unlimited. Oh well. See what happens.
