A type of thinking that has been well documented as being absent amongst blacks. - Knowing the routes and assignments of all players on all plays. - Reading defenses and anticipating their movements. - Misdirecting defenses with his eyes and movements ie. Not staring down his receiver. - Sensing pressure but remaining calm and collected ie. Not scrambling at the first sign of trouble - Precise throwing mechanics to ensure consistency in his passes. Almost none of this is directly linked to athleticism but rather, mental acuity. Whereas, a black QB is only valued for his athleticism, as it wanes, the mental mistakes will overwhelm his value as a playmaker. Happens every time. Cam Newton being the most recent example and Deshaun Watson isn’t far behind. Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers, all significantly older and less athletic, are prime examples of the mental acuity that a white QB can hone to overcome waning athleticism. That’s why the sports media has started to turn on Brady specifically. He continues to rub their noses in it.
