It’s because the shit you are talking about (spent fuel, reactor vessel components, various metal parts) are high density, solid waste. Yep, that shit is stored underground. But the water can be diluted and not be a big deal. There is more radiation in a fucking banana than you’d ever believe. There is a ton of naturally occurring nuclides all over the earth. Shit is everywhere. So to take a large volume of water, which won’t have a large contamination level in and of itself, and dilute the shit into the ocean it won’t be a big deal. Learn a little bit about how nuclear reactors work and radiological controls for waste and shit and then come here and yap.
